Spring Stroll
Step into the newly awakened world of Spring at Temple Newsam and celebrate the season of renewal.
Take in the sights and sounds of nature as you explore a vibrant landscape bursting with new life, and stop by Home Farm to meet and greet some of our newborn lambs.
This is a guided walk led by our Education Officer. There may be undulating terrain and some slopes, but we can tailor the route to the abilities of the group.
Easter Trail
With help from ‘The Friends of Skelton Grange’, our Easter Good Friday event is a glorious outdoor trail wandering through the woods and gardens at Skelton Grange. Complete a treasure hunt along the way and trade in your trove for a chocolatey Easter surprise at the end! The event is a fundraiser for the Centre, but also a great chance for families to enjoy some Easter fun! The Skelton Cafe will be open to buy hot drinks and sweet treats at the end. Tickets are required for all children attending the event, but babies (18 months or under) are welcome free. Adults do not require a ticket if they are accompanied by a child or children. Tickets are £8 per child (plus Eventbrite booking fee). Choose your timeslot between 11am and 1pm.
Pumpkin Sowing in the Walled Garden
Plant pumpkin seeds in the Walled Gardens at Temple Newsam.
Visit the Walled Gardens and pot two pumpkin seeds, one for you to take and grow at home, and one for the gardeners to grow on for you. We’ll then look after it carefully and wait for you to return to us and collect or carve it at Halloween.
We’ll also be planting more wildflowers to help get our butterfly-friendly meadows established, as part of the Wild Spaces Project.

Dawn Chorus Walk
Our dawn chorus walk will focus on using bird song to identify mostly woodland and parkland birds. We’ll likely spot other wildlife on our stroll and you’ll have the opportunity to watch our historic estate wake up and come to life.
The walk finishes in the courtyard where a full English breakfast will be served at 9am in the cafe. Breakfast is pre-ordered, and a variety of options are available to cater for differing requirements.
Bat Walk
Meet in the courtyard for tea and biscuits. There is a 1/2 hour natural history slide talk followed by a quiz and some videos. After an introduction to the use of Bat detectors there is a guided walk approximately 2 miles in length.
The route is reasonably accessible mostly on tarmac paths. A variety of roosting and feeding habitats are covered. In the past about five species of bat have been encountered engaged in a variety of natural behaviour.
